Games Diary: Ni No Kuni #2

Yesterday I spend another four or so hours on Ni No Kuni and like I promised I’ll keep you updated!

If you remember the last time my playthrough ended with a (not so tough) bossfight in Pig-Iron-Plain. Next thing I had to do was to find the next sage and after a short stealth scene I finally got to him.

Games Diary: Ni No Kuni #1

It’s been quiet some time since the last time I played Ni No Kuni. 35 days to be exact. I think it was the hype from all sides that was going on my nerves and destroyed my experience. It started really nicely and I have to admit that the beginning of Ni No Kuni is one of my favorite starts in a game of all time. It was like magic and perfect. The main problem was that I really dislike the system with the familiars. Why do I have to see this stupid animation everytime I give them food? Why can’t I give them more than one piece at once? Feeding this monsters ten times in a row until they’re finished takes just too much of my time.

Games you should play #1 - Virtue’s Last Reward

Hello guys. This is the first entry (of many others in the future, I hope) about video games you should try and play! Of course these games are my favorites and very important to me. Everyone of them is, in my eyes, a masterpiece and deserves to be played.

The first few games will be games with a small fanbase, compared to things like Zelda and others. I just hope you enjoy it and forgive my grammar c:

Of course it’s all spoiler-free, so don’t be afraid!

Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward

The first game is, like you can see, Zero Escape Vol. 2: Virtue’s Last Reward. The second entry of the Zero Escape series. It’s all about trust, betray and the prisoner’s dilemma.

A group of nine people is captured in a facility and have to play the “Nonary Game” to escape the game. To make sure that the players follow the rules Zero, the game master, puts bracelets on their wrists which will penalize them with death, if they break the rules.

Sounds like they’re screwed, right? Well yes, but they can escape if they get 9 points. In order to get them they have to play the Ambidex Game, where they can betray or trust their partner from the last round and get some points.

So the game puts the player in the tough decision to trust the other person/s or betray them, to get out faster. Everyone of them has a unique personality and a really interesting background story, which makes you, the player, emotionally attached to them. You will hate them, you will love them and sometimes both of it. But it’s worth your time to enjoy every single minute with them and get all endings. And there are over 20 of them. But don’t be too afraid of this number, because the game makes it easy for you to see them through a flowchart system, in whic you can just pick up from a certain chapter instead of replaying the whole game enirely again.

Besides of the visual novel part, with lots of text and the “trust-betray”-part, is the puzzle-part where you get into specific rooms with your team of three people to solve puzzles and learn things about outside the facility and what it’s good for.

You could say that Virtue’s Last Reward is the perfect visual novel. The story is fantastic and it’s not just one time where you ask yourself: “What the hell is happening right now and who can I trust?” The characters are great and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them will be one of your overall favorites for the next few years. Yeah, I know these are big words, but I think they’re need to be told.

Virtue’s Last Reward is perfect and worth playing. So if you haven’t played it until now, do it please.

And if you have time buy the first one too, Zero Escape: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors, to get the full load of mindfucks if you play the second one.

Trivia for tonight:

- favorite character: Dio, because he’s awesome and is dubbed by Liam O’sexy-voice-Brian.

- most annoying character: maybe Phi, because of her “I know everything but I won’t tell it” attitude

- favorite song: Pantry from Shinji Hosoe

- magic moment: when you finally understand the story
